One metate fragment from Rockshelter East, Site 24RB1145, was analyzed for
possible animal protein residues. In addition, a soil sample from the same level
as the artifact was tested to provide a control for the artifact. Rockshelter
East is a small rockshelter that is believed to have been occupied from around
A.D. 400 to A.D. 600. Protein residue analysis is used to provide prehistoric
subsistence information and possible artifact specificity.
