资源简介:
This dataset comprises output from reforestation and net-zero CO2 pathway simulations run using the University of Victoria Earth System Climate Model, version 2.10 and is compliment to the forthcoming article to be published in Communications Earth & Environment, the pre-print and detailed description of which is available here: https://doi.org/10.21203/rs.3.rs-6355003/v1 We investigated whether using reforestation-based CO2 removal to offset fossil fuel CO2 emissions will lead to the same climate outcome as avoiding additional fossil fuel CO2 emissions. This net-zero case was derived by accounting for reforestation-based CO2 removals from reforestation simulations, then placing these removals as additional fossil fuel CO2 emissions on top of a reference emissions pathway. The resulting 'net-zero pathway' was compared to reference case. Our results, as found in this dataset, show that the net-zero pathways leads to carbon and climate imbalance compared to the reference case. The biogeophysical effects of reforestation and potential re-release of removed carbon through disturbance events amplifies the additional warming found in our net-zero simulations.
