Japan Chronicle: audited data snapshot of 30 July 2026

A frozen snapshot of the five original data layers of Japan Chronicle, an interactiveatlas of premodern Japan (552–1869), taken on 30 July 2026 at 19:07 and deposited as theevidential base of an accompanying article on evidential quality in historical spatial data. The snapshot holds 173 battle records, 59 general historical events, 47 castles, 35 personsand 9 marching routes. It is the state against which every count and every distance printedin the article was measured; the live atlas has continued to grow since, so figures takenfrom the live site will not reproduce those in the article. The province and domain geometries that the atlas also renders are deliberately excluded:they derive from third-party datasets under CC BY-NC 4.0 and CC BY-SA licences and cannotbe redistributed under the licence of this deposit. ------------------------------------------------------------- Layout after download. Zenodo stores these files flat. The scripts expect the directory structure of the source repository, so recreate it before running them: mkdir -p data/raw scriptsmv battles.js events.js castles.js people.js routes.js data/raw/mv audit-173.csv data/mv *.js *.sh scripts/ Then run e.g. node scripts/classify.js from the top directory. domain-geometry.js will not run: its two inputs are excluded for the licence reasons given above.
