The use of insect frass drops for a rapid assessment of leaf herbivory on beech trees

The dataset includes data on leaf-herbivory from beech trees and insect frass drops gathered in the university forest of the Philipps University of Marburg (Marburg Open Forest) near Caldern in Hesse, Germany.Leaves from the canopy were collected in July and August in 2019 and in July 2020. Afterwards they were scanned with a document scanner and the removed leaf area [%] was calculated.Insect frass drop pellets were collected weekly from May to June in 2019 and 2020. After sieving, the weight of frass drops per sample was determined [mg].All statistical analysis in R and datasets used for our publication are included.
