Gemin5-dependent RNA association to polysomes supports selective translation of mRNA subsets

Here we report the identification at a genome-wide scale of the mRNAs associated to polysomes in Gemin5-depleted cells relative to control cells. Among the polysomal Gemin5-enhanced mRNAs, we identified numerous transcripts belonging to two distinct families, which encode ribosomal proteins and histones. Overall design: Examination of the mRNAs differentially associated to polysomes following Gemin5 silencing revealed the presence of unique cis-acting regulatory elements, the TOP element at the 5´end and the hSL hairpin at the 3´end, respectively.
