Animal model of ulcerative colitis

The aim of the study was to obtain an animal gnoto-model or pseudo-germ-free (PGF) model of ulcerous colitis after chemical induction by means of DSS (dextran sodium sulphate). On the basis of decontamination by selective antibiotics and the observed pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis at various concentrations of its chemical induction, we obtained an optimal animal pseudo germ-free model of ulcerative colitis, manifested by atrophic changes in the caudal intestinal mucosa, with mucin depletion, epithelial degeneration, and necrosis leading to disappearance of epithelial cells, neutrophils infiltration of lamina propria and submucosa, cryptitis, by decreased viability of caecal microbiota and mild to moderate bleeding from the rectum. Data presented here reflect composition of gut microbial community of this model animal based on 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.
