The present invention relates to a binder for cellulose-containing materials， comprising a) hydroxyaldehyde， b) protein-containing components of animal origin and c) components containing phenolic oligomers. The invention also relates to the use of the binder according to the invention for producing the composite material， the method for preparing the composite material and the composite material obtainable by the method according to the invention. The invention likewise relates to the use of the binder according to the invention for producing a composite material， to a process for producing a composite material and to a composite material obtainable by the process according to the invention.
