China's Provincial Night-time Light Data, 1992–2023

This dataset is jointly produced by teams from Southwest University and Fuzhou University, generated by integrating 1992–2013 DMSP-OLS raw data and 2013–2023 SNPP-VIIRS raw data. The "pseudo-invariant pixel" method is used to calibrate DMSP-OLS data to eliminate continuity issues; the exponential smoothing model is used to repair missing values in SNPP-VIIRS monthly data before synthesizing annual data; then the Sigmoid model is used to convert SNPP-VIIRS data to DMSP-OLS-like format, and finally integrated into a continuous time-series dataset from 1992 to 2023. The data has a spatial resolution of 1km×1km and uses the WGS_1984_Albers coordinate system. In addition to national-scale data, it also extracts data for 34 provincial-level administrative regions and 371 prefecture-level cities based on the administrative boundaries of GS (2024) No. 0650 from Tianditu. It can be obtained through Harvard Dataverse or the designated official WeChat account and is suitable for studies such as urbanization dynamics and economic activity assessment。
