On May 30, 2023, a handheld LiDAR device (iPhone running Scaniverse) was used to collect 3D scans of a 12.3-meter adult female Humpback Whale (Megaptera novaeangliae). These scans were conducted during a stranding event on Langara Island, Haida Gwaii.The handheld LiDAR allowed us to capture highly detailed and accurate morphological data of the adult female before and after the necropsy commenced.
