Resequencing the genome of different rice cultivars comprehends the genetic basis of their phenotypic and nutritional variations through the discovery of DNA polymorphisms. However, genome information of many traditional rice cultivars with nutritional and therapeutic values yet to be deciphered. In this study, we performed whole-genome resequencing of Kavuni, a traditional rice cultivar with rich dietary fiber content, different carotenoids level, mineral content and anti-oxidant activity. In addition, methanol extract of Kavuni showed the inhibitory activity against alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase. Whole genome sequencing of Kavuni using Illumina Hiseq 2500 platform yielded 42.0 x 106 paired-end reads and it uniquely covered 83.3% of Nipponbare reference genome sequences.
