Danish Welfare Surveys, 1976 and 1986

The survey aims at giving a description of the living conditions of the adult Danish population in the period from the mid-70s to the mid-80s. The survey comprises a representative sample of approx. 5000 persons, the persons between 20 and 69 who were selected for the 'Danish Welfare Survey, 1976' (DDA-0070). These persons, now between 30 and 79, were interviewed again in 1986 and were asked the most central questions concerning level of living from the 1976-survey (DDA-1077). This data material is a combined version of data from the two surveys. # #A large part of the data material from the 1976-survey is found in the description below of the 1986-survey. In addition to this, the 1976-survey contains the following information: # #- A description of the respondent's household (up to 11 persons); # #- transportation time from dwelling to shops, public means of # transport, post office, public assistance office, etc. as well # as access to recreational areas (park, forest, beach), cinema, # sports grounds and similar facilities; # #- a description of child-minding facilities used by the family; # #- the distribution of housework. # #Furthermore, the financial conditions of the family and the respondent's health and well-being are described in more details in 1976 than in 1986. # #The following information is included in the 1986-survey: # #- Size and composition of the household; type of dwelling; size of # dwelling; conveniences in or in connection with the dwelling # and nuisances in or around the dwelling; # #- employment conditions and working hours, including sideline, # if any, and nuisances and risks in connection with the job; # vocational education; the respondent's own assessment of her/his # health; # #- contact with friends; spare time activities; # #- membership of labour market organizations, political parties # (without any mentioning of which party), other kinds of # political associations and other organizations, including # whether the respondent has any positions of trust as well as # whether the respondent has public positions of trust; # #- financial conditions: the family's wages/income, whether the # family receives various types of public assistance, size of # regular expenses, and what is left for daily consumption, gross # family income in 1985; attitude to the size of assistance to # unemployed people, old age pensioners and people on sick leave; # whether the respondent has joined various pension schemes; # capital assets of the family; and the respondent's opinion of # the development of standards of living during the past 10 years; # #- employment and vocational education of the respondent's spouse; # #- the respondent's personal well-being; fear of violence; changes # in the family situation within the past 10 years; and the # respondent's childhood conditions
