Celera Genomics WGS human genome sequencing project. Homo sapiens

Celera Genomics was founded to sequence and assemble the human genome and pioneered the use of whole genome shotgun (WGS) sequencing strategy for large eukaryotic genomes. A first draft sequence was completed in slightly over two years, sooner than expected and nearly a year ahead of their original goal. Celera published a draft human genome assembly based on WGS sequence data and the BAC clone sequence data generated by the International Human Genome Consortium.
