Whole metegenome sequencing of the Sicilian Black pig fecal microbiome

In this study we report fort the first time the characterization of the fecal microbiome of an ancient autochthonous pig breed that lives in the woods of the Nebrodi and Madonie mountains on the northern coast of the Mediterranean island of Sicily (Italy). Using whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing (WGS) we provide a detailed taxonomic and functional profiling of the microbial community associated with this rare and endangered-maintained pig breed.
