Municipal police workforce in France 2022, by department

According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, there were 27,131 municipal police officers in France in 2022. The French department with the highest number was Bouches-du-Rhône, located in southeastern France (1,593), followed by Alpes-Maritimes, located in the same region (1,341). In contrast, there were no municipal police officers in Creuse, and only 12 in Lozère, the two least populated departments in the country.
