The hypothesis of the present study was that different microbial communities can be observed in aliphatic hydrocarbon contaminated environments under aerobic and hypoxic conditions. To investigate this hypothesis a pilot experiment was performed by establishing aerobic and oxygen-limited bacterial enrichments amended with a crude oil â gasoline mixture.
