Iodate reduction by dissimilatory iodate-reducing microorganisms (DIRM) plays a crucial role in the biogeochemical cycling of iodine on Earth. However, the occurrence of DIRM in iodine-rich groundwater remain unclear. Therefore, we isolated the dissimilatory iodate-reducing bacterium Azonexus hydrophilus strain NCP973 from geogenic high-iodine groundwater of North China Plain. To identify the key genes responsible for iodate reduction, the extracted DNA of this strain was sequenced with Illumina and Nanopore platforms to obtain its complete genome.
