Data and code for: Compliance without characterization: how compound purity is reported under specified and unspecified journal requirements

Data and code behind an audit of purity reporting in 80 chemistry research articles published in 2025, 40 from the Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry (an unspecified purity requirement) and 40 from the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (a requirement that all compounds are >95% pure by HPLC), each read together with its Supporting Information and scored on nine purity-reporting items. Includes the two audit datasets, a dataset of 46 extracted purification-performance values from 20 publications, the evidence record for every Supporting Information re-coding decision, the shared scoring codebook, and the Python script that regenerates every figure. CC BY 4.0 covers the authors' compilation, codes, annotations and code; short verbatim quotations from cited publications are reproduced for verification and remain under the terms of their sources.
