Assessing Potential Habitat Impacts of Commercial Geoduck Harvest (1994 ongoing)

The UHA worked with DFO and other industry partners to complete a large scale investigation of the potential effects of commercial geoduck harvesting on the ocean floor and surrounding sensitive habitats like eelgrass meadows. These studies indicate that the commercial geoduck harvest has no significant, long-term effects on the structure of the ocean floor, the small organisms that live in the sediment or the plants and animals on the surface of the floor.
