The influence of fire on arthropod biodiversity

Wildfire disturbance within savanna ecosystems is a key factor in nutrient
recycling and has a significant impact upon flora and fauna biodiversity. For this
experiment, we investigated fire’s impact on arthropod diversity by collecting
species at 10 sites in the mopane savanna of Kruger National Park near the
Shingwedzi research station. While there was no statistically significant
difference in biodiversity between the two treatments, we found many trends

suggesting that there is species specificity within the different habitats that clearly
parallels those species life history strategies.
