资源简介:
Thames through Time 4 presents the final episode of the Thames through Time series, taking the story of the Thames Valley through the second millennium from the period leading to the Norman Conquest to the beginning of the 21st century. Following previous volumes, Thames through Time 4 continues to highlight the important archaeological discoveries made in the region and synthesises these with the region's rich historical background to provide a new narrative of the medieval to post-medieval period in the Thames Valley. This fourth volume differs from the first three, which were all published as monographs, by being presented as a series of six stand-alone, online chapters dealing with specific themes. These include the use and role of the River Thames, transport, trade and infrastructure, medieval and post-medieval towns, and the medieval and post-medieval rural landscapes. Together, these chapters provide a rich resource of interest to the public, students and academics alike. The volume presents the results of a wide-ranging synthetic study that illuminates the past 1000 years of social, cultural, political and economic history of the Thames Valley.
