Geomagnetic Data, Magnetotelluric Data, and Power Network Specification for April 23-24, 2023 (Alberta, Canada)

All data relevant to reproduce the models of geomagnetically induced currents in the Alberta power network during a space weather event on April 23-24, 2023.

Geomagnetic Data (Mag_Data.zip)

Geomagnetic data from April 23-24, 2023 from western Canada (and northwestern USA). Raw data are from CARISMA (www.carisma.ca), National Resources Canada (NRCan; www.geomag.nrcan.gc.ca), and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) geomagnetism program (www.usgs.gov/programs/geomagnetism).

Magnetotelluric Data (Magnetotelluric_Data.zip)

Includes magnetotelluric data collected by Martyn Unsworth's group at the University of Alberta over the last 20 years, as well as some older LITHOPROBE sites(AB_BC_MT_DATA_526_sites_230321.mat). Similar versions of this data set were previously published in: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4907167

Also includes 3-D conductivity model (2023_WAB_Unsworth_inv1g_NLCG_023.rho) from which model-space forward-modelled MT data were derived (MT_FWD_Data.dat).

Power Network Data (Network_Data.xlsx)

Includes substation locations and earthing resistances, and transmission line routing and line resistances.
