Sex determination systems show striking variability across eukaryotes, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood outside classical model organisms. This study investigates the genetic and epigenetic basis of sex determination in the pennate diatom Pseudo-nitzschia multistriata, a marine microalga with ecological and evolutionary importance. The work is focused on MRP3, a gene of unknown function that governs mating type identity.
