资源简介:
Bloodstream infections in the Democratic Republic (D.R.) of the Congo form a large health burden, especially among young children. These bloodstream infections are predominantly caused by Salmonella serovars Typhimurium, Enteritidis and Typhi; and cause in-hospital mortality rates >20%. Increasing levels of antibiotic resistance are further jeopardizing treatment options. Last year, in 2017, WHO has prioritized fluoroquinolone resistant Salmonella as one of the bacterial pathogens for which urgently new antibiotics are needed. In the D.R. Congo, decreased susceptibility against these fluoroquinolones is on its rise. Therefore, in this study, we will subject Salmonella Typhi, Enteritidis and Typhimurium showing decreased fluoroquinole susceptibility and originating from bloodstream infections in D.R. Congo to whole genome sequencing to unravel the genetic mechanism of resistance.
