Heterotrophic bacteria are closely related to algal detritus and play a crucial role in nutrient cycling in aquatic systems. However, seasonal and spatial dynamics of free-living (FL) and particle-attached (PA) bacteria and the driven environmental factors in eutrophic lakes are still poorly understood. To address this issue, we explored the spatio-temporal patterns of bacterial diversity and bacterial community composition (BCC) in Lake Taihu, a large, shallow, eutrophic freshwater lake in China, using 454-tag pyrosequencing of 16S rRNA gene.
