THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) ON JOB DESIGN AND EMPLOYEE SKILL REQUIREMENTS: AN EXAMINATION OF ORGANIZATIONAL ADAPTATION STRATEGIES
收藏资源简介:
This article examines how artificial intelligence (AI)—including machine learning and generative AI—reshapes job design and alters employee skill requirements, and how organizations adapt through redesign, reskilling, governance, and workforce planning. Drawing on a structured review of recent empirical and policy evidence and secondary statistics, we synthesize dominant patterns of task reconfiguration (automation, augmentation, and re-bundling), emerging competency profiles (data/AI literacy, critical thinking, socio-behavioral and ethical skills), and the organizational mechanisms that enable sustainable adoption. Evidence indicates that AI is accelerating skill disruption and increasing the need for continuous training: employers estimate that 44% of workers’ skills will be disrupted within five years, and six in ten workers will require training in that period. At the same time, firm-level adoption is expanding: across OECD countries with data, 20.2% of firms reported using AI in 2025, up from 14.2% in 2024 and 8.7% in 2023. We propose an adaptation framework linking AI deployment choices to job redesign principles, capability-building pathways, and governance controls, and we translate findings into actionable strategies for leaders managing AI-driven transformation.
