The series consists of Crown Lands Tenure Cards for the Tumbarumba Lands Office.There are a large number of types of tenures within this series, including: Special Lease; Annual Lease; Improvement Purchase; Suburban Holding; Permissive Occupancy; Homestead Selection; Settlement Lease; Settlement Purchase; Homestead Farm; Conditional Lease; Crown Lease; Closer Settlement Lease; Road Permits; Conditional Purchase; Returned Soldiers Group Purchase Lease; Returned Soldiers Special Holding Group Purchase; Residential Lease; Conditional Purchase (Barmedman); Conditional Lease (Barmedman) and Special Lease (Barmedman).In 1861 Crown lands management was reformed with the Crown Lands Occupation Act, 1861 (25 Vic. No.2) which allowed for the leasing of Crown lands. The Act regulated the occupation and management and subsequent alienation of Crown lands.Details of Crown tenures were originally recorded in registers arranged by tenure type. From 1936 the district offices ceased to use the registers and created a district area set of cards. The district offices would then inform the Head Office which would create a comprehensive duplicate set of tenure cards for all districts (NRS 18096).
