Salivary Microbiome with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Treatment

The goals of this study were to determine the salivary microbiome of a group of subjects with Gastroesophageal Reflux disease with and without treatment with Proton Pump Inhibitor Drugs. This cross sectional study included patients well characterized for oral health status. Salivary 16s rRNA was measured in all subjects. There were also a large number of negative controls matched for levels of periodontal disease and edentulism. We seek to answer the question if presence of GERD is associated with a different salivary microbiome and what happen with the further insult of Proton Pump Inhbitor Ruygs.
