Causative agent of a wide range of human and animal infections.. Streptococcus pyogenes MGAS10394

Streptococcus pyogenes strain MGAS10394. This strain is a serotype M6 isolate cultured from a child with pharyngitis in private elementary school in Pennsilvania. The strain contains the mefA gene encoding macrolide resistance and shown to be resistant to erythromycin, and has a chromosomal field-inversion gel-electrophoresis pattern characteristic of the serotype M6 clone causing disease on the territory of USA. It has been deposited at the American Type Culture Collection (accession no. BAA-946).
