资源简介:
Three sediment samples from the Summit Camp (FS Site 05-17-57-633) in northeastern
California were floated to recover macrofloral remains and examined for organic
residues using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). This site is a railroad
construction camp at the crest of Donner Pass that was occupied from 1865-1868 by Chinese
laborers while blasting tunnels through the mountains for the Transcontinental Railroad. It is
noted to be one of the earliest large Chinese occupation sites in California. Macrofloral and
FTIR analyses will be used to provide information concerning foods eaten by the Chinese
occupants of the camp.
