The Asian rice gall midge is a major pest of rice belonging to the order Diptera. We have obtained small RNA reads from gall midge maggots feeding on susceptible rice host using Illumina next generation sequencing. This analysis was carried out to identify microRNAs and other small non-coding RNAs that are present in the Asian rice gall midge during the feeding stage to help provide us valuable information regarding the role these small RNAs play in the rice-gall midge interaction.
