The complete chloroplast genome of Verbascum thapsus L (Scrophulariaceae) and its phylogenetic analysis

Verbascum thapsusis a medicinal plant commonly used in southwest of China. In this study, we sequenced the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of V. thapsusis investigate its phylogenetic relationship in the family Scrophulariaceae. The chloroplast genome of V. thapsusis 153,338 bp in length with 36.0% overall GC content, including a large single copy (LSC) region of 84,627 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 17,829bp and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 25,441 bp. The cp genome contained 84 genes, including 80 protein coding genes, 30 tRNA genes, and 4 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated Verbascum was closely related to Scrophularia.
