Plasmid DNA prepared from 1 liter overnight growth in LB broth using modified alkaline lysis method pAPEC-O103-ColBM is a ColV-type plasmid containing a highly conserved pathogenicity-associated island (PAI) and a multidrug resistance-encoding island. This plasmid confers on its host the abilities to cause neonatal meningitis and septicemia in murine models of infection; to cause avian colibacillosis in chick models of infection; to grow in low iron media; to grow in human urine; to survive in human serum; and to resist multiple antimicrobial agents.
