资源简介:
This collection comprises site data (digital photographs, spreadsheets, specialist reports, scanned trench and context sheets, registers and drawings) from an archaeological evaluation by Archaeology Wales and Wardell Armstrong on land at the Northern Sustainable Placement Area, centred on TQ 07085 88420. Work took place between 22nd July and 13th August 2019 and constituted the second of three phases of archaeological evaluation on the NSPA site (NSPA - Phase 2). Of the 27 trenches excavated during the evaluation of NSPA - Phase 2 only three encountered features of archaeological significance. These were all in field NSD. The features were mainly Romano-British with a single Saxo-Norman ditch. The Romano-British features, when viewed in tandem with the findings from the neighbouring Harefield to Southall gas pipeline evaluation (Network Archaeology 2014), represent at least two phases of agricultural field systems as well as industrial activity in the form of clay extraction pits. The presence of these features indicates that the site is at the edge of a Romano-British settlement. Despite there being a moderate number of archaeological features in fields NSF and NSJ, the lack of dating evidence means these are of low archaeological significance. The dataset holds minimal further work potential, but may be of interest to any future investigations in the area, should Roman-British settlement evidence be identified. The dataset should be considered as part of the Northern Sustainable Placement area dataset which also includes NSPA Phase 2 and NSPA Phase 3.
