资源简介:

Arthur Hilton (East Yorks) was my grandfather, killed in action 3rd May 1915. He left a widow, Hilda Hilton, daughter Hilda aged 7 (my mother) and a son Leslie aged 3. Arthur Hilton is listed on the roll of honour in Beverley Minster and his name appears on the Menin Gate. Editor's Comment: Photograph captioned: 'Bingham Cup Winners'. The Bingham cup was presumably the prize in a shooting competition. Note that the Other Ranks wear the belt and ammunition pouches of Mills Equipment Company design commonly purchased by Territorial Associations, adopted before the war as being cheaper than the regular pattern. From the effects of Serjeant 1062 Arthur Hilton, 1st/4th Bn. East Yorkshire Regiment, killed in action 3rd May 1915, aged 31. The husband of Hilda G. Brown (formerly Hilton), of 17, William St., Porter St., Hull, he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. His battalion, as part of the 50th (Northumbrian) Division, was engaged in the Battle of St Julien, the second phase of the Second Battle of Ypres.
