The urogenital microbiota is increasingly being recognized as a significant factor in female reproductive health. The widespread use of next generation sequencing (NGS)-based analysis has found that there are striking similarities between the vaginal and urinary microbiota. This suggests urinary microbiota profiling can be used for studies into reproductive health issues linked to the vaginal microbiota. In this study we aim to answer whether the urinary microbiota can be used as a reliable proxy for the vaginal microbiota.
