On the prevalence of early mass transfer for very massive binaries
In the manuscript submitted to RNAAS, we compare MESA models withovershooting parameters informed by observations in the relevant massrange with models without overshooting and the stellar models used inrapid binary population synthesis obtained using COMPAS.
We show that for very large initial masses, the radial evolutionduring the main sequence can lead to significant changes in the numberof systems experiencing early case A vs. late case B mass transfer, with potential implications for post-mass-transfer binarysystems. This effect is dependent on convective boundary mixing modeland metallicity.
To examine data, unzip the tar files and find the LOGS folder for eachrun located in its respective folder. To reproduce data, either changedirectory into a specific mass stellar model and run the followingcommands. Ensure you are running MESA version 24.03.1.
./clean./mk./rn
Alternatively, unzip the template folders and run the python script tocreate a customizable number of models. This method is preferred forsubmitting batch jobs when using HPC, information on which isdependent on your institution.
