资源简介:
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is an opportunistic pathogen that poses a significant threat to hospitalized patients. PA is a particular problem in intensive care units (ICUs) due to its ability to contaminate the environment and subsequently infect vulnerable patients. Understanding the transmission dynamics of PA in ICUs is crucial for developing effective infection control strategies. The study sought to establish a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) threshold to define recent transmission events between patients or between patients and the ICU environment, as well as a rapid and relatively easy genomic methodology for identifying transmission events. This study underscores the importance of persistent environmental reservoirs as sources of PA infection in ICUs. The findings highlight the need for effective infection control measures to mitigate the risk posed by contaminated sinks and other environmental sources.
