Neopyropia yezoensis Genome sequencing and assembly

Pyropia yezoensis (also known as Porphyra), has a high nutritional value, including up to 25-30% protein by dry weight, vitamins (in particular, B12), and oligosaccharides. The mariculture of nori in countries such as South Korean, Japan, and China reaches an annual production of ca. 1.8 million tons (FAO 2017 report), making it, globally, one of the most economically important marine crops. Moreover, Pyropia exhibits extraordinary robustness in various environmental stresses in intertidal zone. The objective of this sequencing project is to achieve a chromosome-level assembly of Pyropia yezoensis genome and reveal the genomic foundation of stress tolerance through further comparative genomic analysis.
