Population genomics of the Lake Superior caribou

This study uses high-coverage whole genomes from different caribou populations to investigate their population structure and inbreeding histories. The findings reveal that caribou along the southern range edge exhibit distinct genomic characteristics, high levels of inbreeding, and evidence of gene flow with the continuous boreal caribou range. This research provides valuable insights into the evolutionary history of these isolated caribou populations, aiding in their conservation and management.
