资源简介:
In February 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Virginia Army National Guard (VAARNG) Headquarters and the Department of Historic Resources in Richmond to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on National Guard facilities in the state. This document reports the history of cultural investigations on federally owned or federally supported VAARNG facilities, lists archaeological sites and historic buildings recorded within facility boundaries, discusses historic contexts and predictive models and provides a list of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated with archaeological collections recovered from three federally owned or supported VAARNG facilities. To date, 81 archaeological sites and 10 historic buildings have been recorded at Fort Pickett. One-hundred seven historic buildings have been surveyed at Camp Pendleton. No historic properties located on VAARNG facilities have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places, although 18 sites and 11 buildings are potentially eligible. Furthermore, the Virginia Department of Historic Resources has determined that Camp Pendleton is eligible for listing on the National Register as a historic district. The extent, nature, and location of archaeological collections recovered from work conducted on VAARNG facilities will be determined in the second phase of this project, to be completed during Fiscal Year 1999.
