Number of acquisition-seeking SPACs in the U.S. 2020, by sector

One quarter of all special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) in the United States that were seeking acquisitions focused on the technology sector in 2020. A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) is a company with no business operations which is set up for the sole purpose of raising capital through an initial public offering (IPO), with the goal of buying an existing company. There were a total of 50 SPACs in the U.S. technology sector which sought acquisitions in 2020, followed by 28 SPACs in the healthcare sector.
