Domestic freight volume in Japan FY 2022, by category

In the fiscal year 2022, approximately 1.02 billion tons of special products, such as scrap metal, feedstuff, and fertilizer, among many others, were transported domestically by either rail, road, or water in Japan. Overall, the volume of cargo transported by these three transportation modes declined by 1.4 percent compared to the previous year.
