资源简介:
This dataset consists of a single data table in .docx MS Word format presenting various oxidative stress and antioxidant defence indices in different rat groups undergoing acrylamide and alpha lipoic acid treatment.
Variables measured per group:Lipid peroxidation (nmoles of thiobarbituric reactive substances formed/minute/ mg protein)
Reduced glutathione (μg of reduced glutathione formed/ mg protein
Ascorbic acid (μg of ascorbic acid/ mg protein)
Superoxide dismutase (units/mg protein. One unit = amount of enzyme which inhibits formazone formation by 50%.)
Protein (mg/g tissue)

Treatment groups:Group 1: Control ratsGroup 2: Acrylamide group- Rats injected with 50 mg/kg body weight acrylamide, intraperitoneally for four weeksGroup 3: Alpha lipoic acid group- Rats injected with 35 mg/kg body weight lipoic acid, intraperitoneally for four weeksGroup 4: Alpha lipoic acid and acrylamide group - Rats injected with lipoic acid at dose of 35 mg/kg body weight followed by acrylamide 50 mg/kg body weight after one hour for four weeks.
Background:The related study that generated this dataset investigates the possible protective effect of lipoic acid on acrylamide induced oxidative stress and antioxidant stress indices.
Quercetin (QE), a bioflavonoid present abundantly in fruits and vegetables, has been reported to possess antioxidant properties. Acrylamide (ACR) is formed in foods during cooking and is known to be neurotoxic.
21 day-old western albino rats, both male and female were obtained from the Animal Breeding Laboratory, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and kept in the Central Animal House Facility of the institute. Healthy Wistar rats weighing from 45 to 60 g were divided randomly into the four groups detailed above, consisting of six rats each.
See the related manuscript for further details of methodology.
