An anti-corrosion and drag-reducing solvent-free coating with wet adhesion and self-curing capabilities

Due to their affordability, minimal costs, looser requirements, and versatility, the coating protection technology has become increasingly popular in various fields. However, for some surfaces that are humid and difficult to dehumidify, it will be difficult to achieve effective coating protection on the surface due to poor adhesion. The majority of currently described coating materials have been applied on dry substrate surfaces, which severely restricted their practical application. Herein, we constructed a solvent-free coating capable of deeply removing interfacial water molecules via water migration and reaction and allowing it to adaptively cure without external energy input and solvent volatilization, which endowed a strong interfacial adhesion strength. The adhesion strength of the coating could reach up to 3.36 MPa measured by the pull-out test. Furthermore, the coating not only exhibited a remarkable 99.21 % corrosion prevention efficiency but also reduced the resistance of mixed fluids of crude oil and water by up to 40 % under Couette flow conditions. This functional protective coating with wet adhesion has great potential application value on surfaces that are wet, water-bearing, and difficult to remove water, such as in closed moist spaces, protection of oil pipelines buried underground, and other fields.
