VPRS 8050 Public Building Tent Files

Tents put up for entertainment, amusement or recreation purposes were classified as public buildings under the Health Acts and were subject to the approval process of the existing health administering authority.This series consists of public building tent files which contain applications for approval (current for 12 months in Victoria), inspection report, certificates of safety, renewal and transfer plans and specifications, accident investigations and some photographs.Each file bears a subject title, e.g. 'Rounded Tents', 'Circus Tents', `Youth Tent' with the name of the proprietor, his/her address and the file number.The current arrangement of Public Building Tent (P.B.T.) files commenced around 1980. Originally these files were maintained in a sequence of files relating to amusement park structures (A.S.) but carried a Public Building (P.B.) as well as an A.S. file number.In 1979 the Amusement Park Structure (A.S.) files were sent to the Department of Labour and Industry when it took over responsibility for administering the regulations relating to the mechanical devices of amusement park structures. The tent files, however, remained with the Health Department. The tents currently in use at that time were allocated a numerical file number prefaced by the letters P.B.T. These files form this series. All other remaining tent files (approx 192) not currently in use were physically placed into the public building filing system (See Public Building files, VPRS 7882/P1). Cards representing these files are also found in the Numerical Card Index to P.B. files (VPRS 8041/P1). Although some of the numbers on the tent files/cards have been duplicated they can be distinguished from the P.B. files/cards as also they carry an A.S. number.VPRS 8051, Numerical Card Index to Public Building Tent (P.B.T.) files was created simultaneously to control the arrangement of the files and was used as a movement control record.
