An impregnation vessel (1) and a method for impregnating chips during production of chemical pulp， said impregnation vessel (1) comprising:- an inlet (3) in a top part (5) of the impregnation vessel (1) for receiving chips; - an outlet (7) in a bottom part (9) of the impregnation vessel (1) for discharging impregnated chips out from the impregnation vessel;- at least one impregnation fluid adding device (11) configured for adding impregnation fluid to the chips within the impregnation vessel (1) at a level within the impregnation vessel (1) which is below a top layer (13) of the chips in the impregnation vessel，;- at least one screen (15) provided in a wall (17) of the impregnation vessel (1)， through which screen (15) impregnation fluid is withdrawn from the impregnation vessel; and- at least one injecting device (19) positioned in the top part (5) of the impregnation vessel (1) and configured for injecting fluid to the top layer (13) of the chips in the impregnation vessel (1).
