In this work we present the first microbiome study by means of massive parallel sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene for two free-living Marchantia species, M. polymorpha, and M. paleacea along their soil substrates to consider if there is a differential microbe selection from its surrounding habitat. Finally, we contribute to the general knowledge of Marchantia as a model plant providing a deep description of the laboratory acclimated plants which are not under the thought sterile conditions, and a microbial community lives on Marchantia, this is relevant due to the microbial inhabitants could be complementing their hosts capabilities.
