The draft genome sequence of S. leeuwenhoekii strain C58 should enhance our understanding of how filamentous actinomycetes cope with the harsh environmental conditions that prevail in hyper-arid Atacama Desert soils. Furthermore, this chromosome is a good candidate for genome mining of new gene clusters and other bioactive compounds.
