Supporting data for "Spatialising the Interface between Spirituality and Secular Modernity: Mahayana Buddhism as Entrepreneurial Religion in Urban China"

This is the Dataset (Main folder) for the thesis entitled "<b>Spatiali</b><b>s</b><b>ing the Interface between Spirituality and Secular Modernity: </b><b>Mahayana Buddhism as Entrepreneurial Religion in Urban China</b>". It includes all the analytical materials for the three empirical chapters in this thesis, Chapters 5 to 7. Specifically, it provides, on the one hand, the secondary data on the research case sites Longquan Monastery and Jade Buddha Monastery in Chapters 5 and 6, with 88 Chinese news reports on Longquan Monastery and 62 Chinese news reports on Jade Buddha Monastery. It provides first-hand data from the fieldwork on the Lingyin Community in Chapter 7 and second-hand data on "wanghong temples". The first-hand data includes 121 audio-recording files of in-depth interviews, 120 Chinese transcripts of the in-depth interviews, and 85 photos taken in the fieldwork conducted in the Lingyin Community. The second-hand data is 81 Chinese news reports on internet celebrity temples. Together, these data support an in-depth understanding of the trend towards the entrepreneurial transformation of Mahayana Buddhism in the post-reform era.
