What counts as 'data' in asylum cases? An analysis of Upper Tribunal asylum and immigration appeals

This dataset is part of the European Research Council-funded research project "Security Flows," which explores how datafication —the process of transforming our everyday lives into quantifiable digital data —is also transforming borders today. The dataset compiles information about Upper Tribunal Immigration and Asylum Chamber (UTIAC) decisions, which make reference to "data".Using the archive’s search browser, we queried for “data”, extracted the results, and stored them as a CSV file. Each line in the dataset corresponds to a unique UTIAC appeal decision entry that mentions " data" one or more times. The "UTIAC dataset" sheet includes 763 decisions promulgated between August 2002 and April 2024. We manually reviewed each decision to interpret the occurrences of “data".
